UCC-C is a faith community committed to social justice and outreach through justice work, pro-active distribution of 16% of annual operating budget and 25% of capital campaigns for local, regional, national and international outreach, special offerings and hands-on volunteer work beyond the walls of the church.
In 2003 the congregation added an elevator to the church, and financed a Habitat for Humanity home with the outreach portion of the campaign.

UCC-C is an active member of AMOS of Ames and encourages our members to become involved in this organization dedicated to bringing social and economic justice issues to community and state leaders who can make a difference. Currently, there are 5 issue teams - economic justice, youth and education, health care, environment, and immigration.
Christian Service in the Ames Community
Emergency Residence Project, Ames (Mondays, 5:30 PM)
In addition to financial support, our faith community provides meals for the homeless who stay at the Emergency Residence Project every Monday evening during the year (except December). About two to three times a year, each volunteer provides a meal, including a simple main dish and a side dish for approximately 8-12 people and delivers it around 5:30 p.m. Stay and eat with the residents or drop off your food, whatever works for you! Call the church office at 515-232 9323 or uccames@midiowa.net for more information.
Fellowship of Service (1st, 3rd & 5th Thursday, 8:30 AM)
A group of interested people meet at 9:00 am to sew, assemble and ship layettes to Church World Service. Small quilts for Seasons of Giving or ACCESS are made from the scraps. Come jockey a sewing machine, cut blocks, or just enjoy the fellowship.
Israel Family Hospice House (1st Friday)
Volunteers provide a couple dozen homemade or purchased bars, cookies or prepackaged snacks the first Friday of each month. Anyone interested in helping may contact the church office at 515-232-9323 or uccames@midiowa.net.
Meals on Wheels (Saturdays, 11:20 AM)
UCC volunteers deliver Meals on Wheels every Saturday of the year. Volunteers pick up the meals at Mary Greeley Medical Center at 11:20 a.m. and usually have completed their assigned routes within one hour. Recipients appreciate hot meals and friendly service. To participate, contact the church office at 515-232-9323 or uccames@midiowa.net
Food at First--"Third Saturday at First" (3rd Saturday, 9:30 AM-1:30 PM)
Our congregation participates in preparing and serving this community meal on the third Saturday of each month. We call it "Third Saturday at First." Volunteers should contact the church office at 515-232-9323 or uccames@midiowa.net
Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance, Inc.
Monthly offerings on Communion Sundays provide financial assistance to individuals and families denied services by Mid-Iowa Community Action and Story County Department of Human Services. Services include assistance with rent, rental deposits, and utility bills. In addition to financial support, UCC-C provides a volunteer representative to serve on the GNEA Board of Directors.
People Place
The church houses People Place, a family resource center that provides programs to give families support in developing self-confidence and competence.
Caregivers (Monthly)
The aim of Caregivers is to enhance the skills for ministries of care giving by laypersons. Care giving is an opportunity to love others because God first loved us. A number of laypeople assist the Pastor in calling on members who are not able to attend church services regularly. These Caregivers meet monthly with the Pastor to share their experience. Please contact the Pastor at 515-232-9323 or uccames@midiowa.net if you are interested in participating.
